New Deva No-Poo Quick Cleanser

Is on it's way to the salon!  This no-poo version of dry shampoo could be a smash hit among those of us who'd like a little refresher without a bunch of damaging ingredients. "Gently cleanses without water", "adds luster and shine", "and adds texture and volume" are the promises.  I'll keep you updated, this one could be kind of awesome. Also, their new aerosol hairspray works well and it nice to have to add to the collection , but has the distinct lavender smell that is either a love or a hate. Good thing for the haters, the smell doesn't linger.

Staying Power

These thirsty curls are shown in their natural state, without any product, in the first shot. After adding a Curl Girl prescription to her regimen, she should expect to see the finished results last all day, and possibly into the next - maybe even a day 3 after the proper moisture balance has been restored!

17 months post relaxer

This was one of my most gratifying before and after shots EVER!!  watching her curls come out as we snipped and de-bulked was amazing, and the results were even better than I anticipated. Lots of Devacurl One Condition was left in and then scrunched, then I added Ouidad Hydrafusion Creme. Oh Em Geeee.

Her bottom curls were most likely to tangle/matt, which is why I did slightly larger single strand twists - this will help hold the curls in a twist pattern and prevent them from hooking on to eache other in a less organized way and tangling.

Ouidad Hydrafusion Curl Creme on 3a Naturally Curly Hair

The little bit of Mica in the product adds an awesome hint of shimmer to curls and allows amazing movement and softness. 3c curls seem to like it best!

I had an amazing time at's Curly Pool Party!  Thank you so much, nc!  It was so much fun to be a Texture Squad Stylist and part of this event!

I got to hang with Cassidy Blackwell, the Global Editor and the awesomeness behind one of the best named blogs ever, Natural Selection. She's completely adorable and I'm obsessed with her hair. Obsessed. Seriously. It makes me want to do rockstar 4a,b,and c curls. Her color is amazing. And, she was all like "It's wash and go." Just One Condition and Heaven in Hair. I felt like one of those cartoons where the character dramatically jaw drops and then picks their bottom lip off the floor and rolls it back up to their mouth.

I also got to hang with Michelle Breyer, co-founder of!!!!! The O.G of naturallycurly, and she knew who I was.  If that's being cornball, I don't want to be cool. She grew a little startup brainchild into a ridiculously badass company that empowers curl…

Ouidad Hydrafusion Curl Creme Review in Action

This is Ouidad's Hydrafusion Curl Creme on type 3c curls.  She has a generous amount of Deva Care One Condition left in her hair, and some Ouidad  Moisture Lock added before a final pass with the Hydrafusion to finish her style. She sat under a hard top fryer for about 15 minutes and in the video her curls are about 70% dry, the top is still holding some much needed moisture and will dry slowly over the next few hours.

Dip Dye Diva

I did some purple "dip dye" ombré tips on my friend's daughter's hair tonight.

Welcome - Ouidad Styling Cremes

Ouidad Launched New Styling Cremes - Define and Shine Curl Quenching Gel-Creme & Hydrafusion Intense Curl Creme.

Hydrafusion is on the left, and Define and Shine is to the right. These are just sample size pre-release bottles, see the actual packaging below.

The Hydrafusion is visibly thicker, and formulated with tighter curls in mind.  Showcase ingredient:  Milk Thistle, which has been a popular homeopathic remedy for everything from lowering cholesterol, reducing damaging effects of chemotherapy, and lowering cholesterol levels.  The Milk Thistle was surely sought after by Ouidad for its high linoleic acid content - an essential fatty acid that promotes healthy and strong hair.

Define and Shine Gel Creme is suited for those with looser curl patterns and whose curls are easily weighed down  if too much product it used- s'wavy's, cherubs, silkies, - this might be for you. Showcase ingredient:  Hydrolized Silk Protein is lightweight yet superior at retaining moisture, links…

Clip It - Using clips for volume and finishing

Clipping curls for volume and placement control is an part of many naturally curly hair styling routines.  I use several kinds of clips, the two most frequent are the single prong and duckbill. This is how I explain it to my clients:
"Single Prongs are give the most control and ease of use for a defined of zig zag part, they are also great for defining a bang or fringe area."
"The Duckbills cover the most real estate and are best for the side of the head, and also for a no part style to direct curls up and away from the face."

Duckbill Clips

Up-cycle an Old T-shirt into a Scrunching Towel

A simple t-shirt can provide post-setting scrunching nirvana. Even gentler than a microfiber towel,
t-shirts can give amazing definition to even the limpest of curls.

DevaCurl Set It Free

Spray on styled curls - on wet for extra hold, on dry to soften cast, tame frizz/flyaways.

Some curlies like to use it as a secondary step in morning refreshing, adding after BB or OcMilk.

Tip: Spray into hands and then scrunch into hair.  Smooth around hairline if necessary.

Beeswax and Olive Oil make this Spray on taming and moisture locking lotion a tad heavy for some curls - if you feel it weighs down your curls, try using less before confirming it's not for you.  Remember, not all products work fabulously on everyone. One person's "changed my life" product, could be another person's "NEXT!!".

Summer Curl Care - Ouidad Sun Shield

Ouidad Sun Shield - Defend against Wind, Sun, Salt & Chlorine

A favorite all year 'round in Florida,  Ouidad Sun Shield is a great defense against elements that are ever present in our sunny climate. With a texture similar to OC milk, with specially formulated ingredients to keep curls shiny and supple, this spray is a great addition to your beach bag, and possibly your everyday routine. Here's what Ouidad has to say about her product:

"The sun is not only dangerous to your skin but it can also wreak havoc on your hair -causing its color to turn or fade and drying out already thirsty curls. Sun Shield Sun & Sport Leave-in Conditioner protects against sun damage with effective UV blockers, which form an invisible breathable shield to lock out the elements. Spray on prior to sun exposure and any time by the pool or beach when you want to create softer, smoother, shinier curls.

Also effective against damaging environmental factors like wind, salt and chlorine, Sun Sh…

Confessions of a Product Junkie

Product Junkie - sometimes it means someone on the never ending hunt for something that works. For Gail,  I don't see it that way.  Not at all.  After years of straightening and relaxing, she found the real deal results curl products that work. Ouidad, Deva, others from cm. (Ouidad and Deva are her main 2, for sure.)  And, when I say she dabbles in product, I am not kidding. She tries it all, different layers, a pump of this, a dab of that, scrunch now, scrunch after, with a microfiber, with an old t-shirt, and with a paper towel - until she finds curl utopia. And all of this can go out the window and change within a few weeks with the weather, or with her mood. She truly enjoys feeding her curls, watching them sit in all of their defined glory, and knowing that when she tries new products that they will work - somehow, some way, even if they work just so on one curl every 3rd Tuesday.  A woman after my own heart.  My name is Jennifer, and I too, am a Product Junkie.  I get awesom…

New DevaCurl Styling Creme Launches With Fantastic Results

I set it on my station, stared at it, and wondered how much of a headache it would be to figure this stuff out. When it comes to curly hair styling product application, I have it down to a neurotic art form.  Usually, a 4 layer process that will make curls healthier over time as well as keep them defined and frizz free for 2-4 days (depending on curl type). And, everyone's recipe is customized for their specific curls and lifestyle.

As excited as I am that curlies have a new product to play with from a tried a true "results" company like Deva, I really don't g.a.f what it SAYS it will do on the side of the bottle, I need to SEE what it does, how it works - does it blend with my favorite leave in conditioner? Can it stand alone without the use of a gel or foam to keep frizz at bay for the day? For 2 days? Longer? Does it flake? Does it...........fffffffffffffff.

I do love Deva products, I love the smell of the DevaCare (white labels vs. green) that remind me of a del…

Ouidad Climate Control Frizz and Flyaway Fighter

An extra tool in your arsenal to help fight frizz and flyaway's? Sure. Welcome Ouidad's new Frizz and Flyaway Spray, and lightweight & silky spritz designed to help tame unwanted cuticle related drama while - as Ouidad always does - respecting the curl.

Remember Curlies - this does not mean we can slack off on on feeding our curls the nutritious breakfast of Moisture Lock that they rely on to stay hydrated throughout the day(s). This is a "nice to have"  tool for most. Even for those of you who add it to your "I'd die without it" list,  remember - it's still a finisher, and it probably isn't the only hair care item you should grab when packing for the zombie apocalypse. Moisture Lock is the obv pick for that scenario, for sure.

Q- "But, it has 'cones' in the ingredient list, I thought silicone based ingredients were bad?"

A- As always, Ouidad's cones are 100% water soluble, this means that water alone will rinse them co…
